Abstract

The advent of 5G networks represents a transformative leap in communication technologies, enabling unprecedented connectivity, faster data transfer rates, lower latency, and support for a massive number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. However, this revolutionary technology brings with it a host of cybersecurity concerns that need immediate attention to ensure secure deployment and operations. The cybersecurity implications of 5G arise from its complex architecture, diverse applications, and integration of multiple heterogeneous networks. This paper explores the risks and challenges associated with 5G networks, including vulnerabilities in the supply chain, software-defined networking (SDN), network slicing, and IoT integration. Additionally, the paper identifies critical attack vectors, such as denial-of-service attacks, data breaches, and advanced persistent threats that exploit the inherent weaknesses of 5G infrastructure. To mitigate these challenges, robust security frameworks are required, including stringent regulatory policies, encryption protocols, and real-time threat monitoring systems. The study concludes by providing actionable recommendations for stakeholders, including governments, network operators, and enterprises, to achieve secure deployment and operation of 5G networks while fostering innovation and resilience.
